MuvMi is an on-demand ridesharing service that provides a micro-transit solution for passengers with similar destinations at an affordable price. The service operates a network of on-call electric tuk-tuks (three-wheeled vehicles) connected to various public transportation systems in Bangkok, including BTS and MRT.
Not only focusing on being environmentally conscious, the team also committed to developing a seamless end-to-end experience on its application, especially when customers are topping up with their credit card.
MuvMi has started using Opn Payments' API integration to offer payment options that align with the cashless lifestyle and mobile payment trend. The result? They are now looking to bring the services to other bustling cities in Thailand and ultimately expand their innovative ridesharing solution throughout Southeast Asia.
According to Peephanom Namchom, the Product Manager at MuvMi, the company aims to be at the forefront of Thailand's micro-transit industry by providing alternative transportation options that connect people to public commute systems and businesses in various areas. "Our mission is to shape the future of transportation," said Peephanom.
Peephanom also shared the three principles that MuvMi team believes will drive the business toward its goal: Affordability, Cleanliness, and Safety. "Affordability means creating a transportation model that is accessible and affordable for everyone. Cleanliness refers to developing pollution-free transportation solutions powered by clean energy, such as MuvMi's electric tuk-tuks, which run on 100% electricity. Lastly, Safety is about delivering a transportation experience and service that meets the highest safety standards," explained Namchom.
Muvmi now operates in 12 locations across Bangkok, with over 4 million users, and plans to expand to Southeast Asia. Peephanom underscored that the payment process is an integral factor in app development - a key touchpoint for MuvMi that has been outlined and integrated into the service from the beginning.
"We prioritize payments since it's the first stop in customers' first ride requesting experience. We decided to focus on making it easy and reliable by understanding our customers' preferred payment methods and formulating a suitable checkout flow."
MuvMi offers a number of top-up options, including credit cards, QR codes, and bank transfers. Interestingly, 40% of their customers have opted for credit card top-ups in recent years. As Peephanom described, "When MuvMi initially launched, customers primarily used bank transfers or QR codes for wallet top-ups. However, after introducing credit cards as an option, more users started to choose this payment method."
Despite the initial challenges, Komkrit Kunanusont, the Mobile Developer Team Lead at MuvMi, gave us a glimpse into the early stage of selecting a payment gateway, "At that time, payment gateways were still new and not as well recognized as they are today. We saw this as an opportunity to explore the best options for our platform."
"Since we are not an expert in payment processing, we sought out a service provider with the expertise to meet our needs. We also studied customers' payment behavior and tried to understand the social norms and trends at that time. For us, reliability is the most important thing in creating a payment experience. That's why we are looking for the most reliable solution, which should integrate easily into MuvMi platform. Considering all these aspects, Opn Payments meets our needs better than any other payment gateway," Peephanom noted.
From the software developer's perspective, Komkrit believes that Opn Payments enables MuvMi to deliver seamless payment experiences to its customers: "As a direct integration, we can do everything within the application, and one important highlight is the in-app experience. With Opn Payments, MuvMi customers can top-up without needing to redirect outside the app, which increases their trust and credibility. Additionally, all data, such as top-up statuses, occur within the app, allowing us to receive signals and decide how to proceed."
Komkrit highlighted the integration process and shared, "We were searching for a solution that could seamlessly integrate with our system to develop native platform applications. Opn Payments' backend API played an important role in streamlining our integration process. The documentation was easy to understand, and SDKs were available for Android and iOS, making the integration process a breeze. Additionally, their test environment enabled us to test different flows within the application on our own, which was incredibly helpful."
By providing a micro-transit service and seamless payment experience that can enhance urban transportation, MuvMi has set its sight on expansion opportunities to other bustling cities in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia.
"At MuvMi, we recognize that people in various areas and cities have unique lifestyles and specific requirements. That is why our transportation services are designed to cater to each area's needs and provide a customized commuting experience that meets those needs to the fullest," Peephanom added.
"Lastly, regarding the MuvMi platform or application, we plan to leverage existing information from our database, analyze our customers' preferences, and offer personalized experiences in the future."
